It isn’t sex and it isn’t work | Zsófilter #s03e04
Description
How are women treated in the Red Light District? Why is the Dutch sex trade filled with women from poor countries? How can a human trafficker walk free after being reported to the police many times? If ‘sex work’ is just like any other work, why are women shamed for it and why do they endure so much abuse and explitation?
Almost 25 years have passed since the Netherlands legalized brothel keeping in 2000. It was sold as a progressive idea that would give prostituted women more agency and reduce crime. Well, it turns out that the opposite has happened. Renate Van Der See is a Dutch writer and investigative journalist who has been covering women’s rights issues for 15 years. She has recently uncovered the case of a Dutch pimp who trafficked over 400 girls and women into porn and prostitution, most of them from Eastern-Europe. The story sheds light on the reality of the Dutch sex trade which is an industry filled with exploitation, abuse and crime.
